Project types

There are two types of projects: AceBackup archive and AceBackup backup.

AceBackup archive

The AceBackup archive has its own folder structure. It does not depend on the original locations of files and folders you add to the archive. You can add files and folders to any project folder.

AceBackup backup

The folder structure of an AceBackup backup project depends on the full paths of the files and folders you add to the project. The full path of a local file will match the full path of the file in your project folder structure.

EXAMPLE
For example, you have the Word document sales report.doc in the E:\My Documents folder on your computer.
If you work with an AceBackup archive, you can add the file to any folder inside your project. If you create a new folder and add the file to that folder, you get the following:

The way an Archive will look

If you add the file to an AceBackup backup the file path within the project will always match its original path:

The way a Backup will look

What is a backup item?

In the AceBackup backup there are special backup item properties for each project folder. These properties are used, when AceBackup is automatically run by the Task scheduler. These properties are set to Yes: the folder is a backup item, or No: the folder is no backup item.

When AceBackup is run by the Task scheduler, all backup item folders from the scheduled project are checked for their backup item properties. If the folder is a backup item, AceBackup will scan the corresponding folder on your computer for new files, and add them to your project.
